We make birthstone collections for jewelry brands and retailers. Twelve natural stones, one design, set in solid gold or 925 sterling silver in our Bangkok workshop and shipped to you under your own name.
A birthstone line looks simple on a product page. Making one is harder, because the January ring has to match the July ring in every way except the stone. Same setting, same stone size, same finish, twelve times over, and then again on the re-order. That consistency is the job, and it is what we are set up to do.
The twelve birthstones we set
These are the natural stones most birthstone lists use. Where a month has more than one traditional stone, we can work with either.
- January: garnet
- February: amethyst
- March: aquamarine
- April: diamond, natural or lab-grown, always named for what it is
- May: emerald
- June: pearl or moonstone
- July: ruby
- August: peridot
- September: sapphire
- October: opal or pink tourmaline
- November: citrine or topaz
- December: blue topaz, tanzanite or turquoise
Natural stones are sold as natural, and lab-grown diamonds are never passed off as mined. Many natural stones are routinely treated (most blue topaz is irradiated, most sapphire and ruby is heated), and we tell you the usual treatment for each month before you order. More on the stones themselves is on our gemstones, sapphire, ruby and emerald and semi precious stones pages.
Matching stones across a production run
Stones are bought in parcels and picked by hand. For a birthstone line we fix the size in millimetres, the shape and a colour range for each month on your approved sample. Every stone in the run is selected against that reference, so a customer who buys March and later buys September gets two pieces that look like they belong together.
Colour is the hard part. Natural stones vary, and a tight colour window costs more because fewer stones in a parcel qualify. Widening it a little often brings the price down without changing how the finished piece looks, and we will tell you where that line sits for each month before production starts.
Small calibrated rounds and ovals are the easiest sizes to keep consistent across all twelve months. Larger stones and fancy shapes are possible too, but some months are slower to match in volume, and we raise that at the sample stage rather than after.
Metals
We set birthstones in 925 sterling silver and in 9k, 14k and 18k gold in yellow, white and rose. Plating is available on silver. Every piece is hand finished and checked in the workshop before it is packed.
Minimum order quantity
Gold can start from a single piece, depending on the value of the item. Silver usually starts from about 30 pieces. Ask us for the real figure on your design; the MOQ and pricing page explains how we set it.
Sample and production times
A sample usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks after you approve the design. Production then takes about 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the quantity, the metal and how much stone setting is involved. We ship worldwide by FedEx or DHL.
How to start a birthstone collection
We quote from the real piece, and the price depends on the metal, the karat, the size and the stones. The more of this you send in the first email, the more useful our first reply will be:
- Your designs. Drawings, a CAD file, photographs, or a sample you want matched.
- Metal and karat. 925 sterling silver, or 9k, 14k or 18k gold, and which colour of gold.
- Sizes. Ring sizes, chain lengths, pendant dimensions.
- Stones. Which months, the stone size in millimetres, the shape, and any colour you have in mind.
- Rough quantities for each month.
Birthstone lines can also go out under your own brand, with your hallmark and packaging. See private label jewelry manufacturing for how that works.
